Create a workflow
This guide explains how to create a workflow in Ecosystem.
The Workflow creator on Chat Ecosystem generates workflows with the full context of your organization (workflows, triggers, dictionaries, environments, statistics…) — see Chat Ecosystem Assistant.
Prerequisites
- Have access to an organization
- Have created a trigger, if you choose With a trigger
- Have the necessary permissions (Builder, Advanced Builder or Company Owner)
Creation steps
1. Go to the creation page
- Click Workflows in the navigation menu
- Click the Add a workflow button at the top of the page
From the workflow board, the Generate a new workflow with AI button lets you describe the workflow in natural language and automatically generate its structure.
2. Fill in the form
| Field | Required? | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Yes | Identifies the workflow in lists and in the editor (e.g. "Order processing"). |
| Description | No | Purpose of the workflow; recommended for maintenance. |
| Subscribed trigger | If With a trigger | Associated trigger: choice in the list. One workflow = one trigger. The association can still be changed after creation, from the workflow list. |
The form offers two triggering modes.
- With a trigger: the workflow starts when an external event occurs. The Subscribed trigger field is then required.
- Without a trigger New: the workflow becomes a reusable function that can be called from other workflows by the Call a workflow node. | Project | No | Project in which to classify the workflow. Makes organization easier in the tree — see Permissions — Organization. | | Tags | No | Entry then validation (↵ Enter); suggestions of existing tags; creation on the fly. |
3. Create the workflow
- Check all the information
- Click the Save button
- You will be redirected to the workflow editor
After creation
Once the workflow is created:
- Status: the workflow is created with the
Draftstatus - Initial structure: a Trigger node is automatically added; it represents the workflow's trigger and cannot be deleted
- Editing: configure the nodes and add the logic
The Trigger node is the entry point of your workflow. It is from this node that you can access the received data via data, incomingRequest and context (depending on the trigger type) — see Trigger node.
Edit a workflow
To edit an existing workflow:
- Go to the Workflows page
- Click the workflow to edit
- You reach the workflow editor
- Modify the nodes and connections according to your needs
- The changes are saved automatically (in draft mode)
Changes to a workflow with the Draft status do not affect the deployed versions. To deploy your changes, you must create a new workflow version. The deployed workflows will continue to use their version until a new version is deployed.
