Test a workflow

This guide explains how to test a workflow in the editor before deploying it. The test mode lets you run a workflow with test data, visualize the results at each step, debug problems and validate the logic before deployment.

Before you start

  • Open the workflow to test in the Ecosystem editor.
  • Have an example of the data received from the trigger to simulate during the test.

Enable the test mode

The test runs at a workflow node level: the Test the node button is not available on the Trigger node.

  1. Open your workflow in the editor
  2. Select a workflow node (e.g. the first node after the trigger)
  3. Click Test the node
  4. The test mode is enabled

The output context of the tested node is kept for the next node: leave the node, click on the next node and click Test the node again — the test of the next node starts from the context produced by the previous one.

Configure the test data

Trigger data

Simulate the data received from the trigger:

  • JSON format
  • Must match the format expected by the trigger

Example for an API route trigger:

{
"method": "POST",
"body": {
"orderId": "12345",
"items": [
{"id": "1", "quantity": 2}
]
}
}

Global variables

Define test variables:

  • Simulate the environment variables
  • Key-value format

Save the context

When testing a node, you can save the context in the next node (the Save button): the context produced by the tested node is stored (PUT on the node context) and reused for subsequent tests, without re-entering it.

Run the test

  1. Configure the test data
  2. Click Test 🚀
  3. The node runs with the test data
  4. Visualize the node result, then move to the next node (the output context is kept)

Debug

Errors

Errors are displayed:

  • Directly on the nodes concerned
  • In the results panel
  • With explicit messages

Intermediate data

Inspect the data at each step:

  • Check the transformations
  • Validate the conditions
  • Check the results

Result

The test runs with the test data, and the results are visible at each step.

Per node

Each node displays:

  • The input data
  • The output data
  • The possible errors
  • The execution time

Full trace

Visualize the full trace:

  • Node execution order
  • Data at each step
  • Errors and warnings
